Fire Kills - Check Your Smoke Alarms
It is a little off-topic but a campaign that is close to our hearts here at CSTS.
The Fire Kills campaign urges everyone to test their smoke alarms when they change their clocks.
You are four times more likely to die in a fire in a home if there is no working smoke alarm.
Although the number of fatalities has fallen in the last two years, over 70 per cent of the 203 who died were not alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm. A common cause of smoke alarms not working is flat or missing batteries.
Sadly more than half the people who died in fires in the home last year were aged 65 and over. Testing for an older family member, neighbour or friend who finds their smoke alarms difficult to reach could give them those vital extra seconds to escape when it really matters.
